Invitation
Studio Visit 14
Hello - this is a short email for those of you in NYC - I will be opening my studio April 18 & 19, 2026.
From late 2017 – 2024 I worked out of a small storefront studio in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The ‘studio’ was an office I found on Craigslist that had most recently been a real estate office. When I made it an art studio, my art studio, I always joked that I had de-gentrified it.
In January 2025 I was thrilled to receive the Two Trees Cultural Space Subsidy, and move into a giant studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
As part of the space subsidy, I will participate in Dumbo Open Studios on April 18 and 19th, 20 Jay Street, Suite 213, 1 – 6 pm. Please come visit.
[There are tons of other amazing artists participating at 20 Jay Street - to name just a few: Deborah Bright on the 7th floor, Steffani Jemison on the 3rd floor, Ruth Root on the 2nd floor.]
all my best,
Sara

Bonus II, from ICONOGRAPHY manuscript, WALL entry:
Both the comedy club and the artist studio are sites of relation and culture making. There’s intimacy and, when there’s an audience, performed intimacy. There’s a cultural tradition, often oral, often situated in the meta work – hanging at the bar etc – that erects these powerful backdrops for what it’s like to actually be a “working” comedian or a “working” artist. And these iconic images of 20th century artists and comics do not depict people looking at their phones all day long.
